What They Say

“Rework was the clear choice to be [the client’s] dealer due to their expertise in refurbished furniture, ability to fabricate new as the project required, and sensitivity to budget constraints. Understanding scheduling pressures, Jennifer and Marc offered options in a manner that led to fast decision making on the client side. They stuck the landing by flawlessly preparing and executing a phasing plan of this project, which was an intimidating game of Tetris given the ongoing construction and existing furniture coordination,”
Kate Brown, NCIDQ, LEED AP BD+C, IRIDIO Interior Design Studio.

The Scope

Our client wanted to refresh their Chicago office, making some changes to the private offices, meeting rooms, reception, café and lounge areas. In close collaboration with the design firm and general contractor, we provided new, custom and pre-owned furniture as well as reconfiguring and modifying existing furniture to balance with their new space plan design. Through a blended solution, we were able to successfully hit the project team’s timeline and target dates.

The Process

Our client is a law firm providing creative solutions to complex legal problems. They pride themselves on being nimble, efficient and experienced in handling high-stakes cases nationwide. With offices centrally located in Chicago and Houston, they represent clients’ interests across the U.S., Canada and Europe.

The client’s interior design firm was referred to Rework for help with space planning, furniture selection, project management and installation. The project involved a phased plan for two floors of the client’s downtown Chicago office, with a firm deadline to have all the furniture delivered and installed.

In the reception area, we relocated the client’s existing bench to the new wellness room and moved their sofa from the café lounge area to the reception area. We also provided custom furniture reupholstery for the reception area seating, elegantly tied together by a new, saffron-colored Shaw area rug. The client’s wellness room was then furnished with a new vanity and ottoman, repurposed bench, credenza and storage to create a calm, inviting space for new mothers, mental health breaks, prayer and other inclusive necessities.

Enhancing the café, we worked with Custom Crafters to create a custom bar height table in Brittany Blue, perfectly complemented by pre-owned, walnut-colored Allermuir bar stools. Not only was this cost-efficient for the client, but the bar stools also seamlessly accentuate the natural elements incorporated throughout.

Also in the café area, we provided new, linen-colored tabletops on the client’s existing café table bases. Accommodating existing power troughs involved cutting and assembling the table surfaces onsite, while carefully protecting the integrity of existing furniture. New Compel Sofie 4-Star chairs with dove grey, poly shells serve as comfortable café seating that’s easy to clean and mimic the soft, linear curves found in other areas of the client’s office.

The warm, natural linen hues can also be found in the training room, where we customized new tabletops. These were installed onsite as well—integrating with the client’s existing table bases—providing an efficient and budget-friendly solution across a significant area of the floorplan. This same method was employed in the conference room, where we replaced the client’s long surface top with a fresh, sleek conference table surface, matching the finish of those seen in the training room.

The firm recognizes the importance of providing a comfortable and functional workspace for individual focused work and client meetings. To embody this, attorneys’ private offices were updated with ergonomic Humanscale task chairs and natural, camel-colored BRNO leather side chairs. By choosing pre-owned seating, the client was able to save significantly throughout the several dozen private offices, all while sourcing sustainably and hitting target timelines. Custom round tables were crafted in New Age Oak to pair seamlessly with the side chairs and meticulously match the existing private office casegoods.

Rework helped support the design firm through furniture procurement, specification, reconfiguration, reupholstery and project management. The client and project team sought an organization who understood their project goals, meeting the budget and timelines set forth, and we were able to deliver on all accounts.

Overall, the partnership among the design firm, general contractor, client and Rework was successful in creating fresh, calming and comfortable spaces for the firm’s attorneys and their clients. The collaboration highlights our creativity to complex projects and commitment to the client’s desires when sourcing a cost-effective, full-service furniture provider.
